THE PARTNERSHIP – IT’S A HOMERUN!
Pittsburgh Pirates – Bradenton Marauders – Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County
For decades, the Pittsburgh Pirates have been a memorable part of our young members’ Club experience. For over a decade, the same can be said for the Bradenton Marauders. Our 1970’s alumni who attended the Boys Club that was located next to McKechnie Field on 9th Street still reminisce about getting pointers from Roberto Clemente and Dave Parker.
Today, the partnership continues to inspire our young people on and off the field.
“I thought we were part of the Pirates. I thought I was a Pirate!”
“I watched many games when I was at the Boys Club in the 60’s and 70’s.”
“Interacting with the Pirates and being part of that era, I became a baseball player.”
“It was hard not to envision yourself, one day, hitting a home run in that field.”
In 2018, the Pittsburgh Pirates celebrated 50 years in Bradenton, Florida and Dawn Stanhope, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, spoke of the value of having the Pirates as a partner in the community. (Video courtesy of the Pittsburgh Pirates)
